I am having a good day. In fact, this has been a good week for me. My relationship with William has been improving; I’ve made time to just hang out and play with Flora; I turned in a research paper that I decided to totally rewrite at the last minute hours before it was due; and I started a second job (that I LOVE) where I get to work with one of my best friends. It’s amazing how things just seem to fall into place when you’re working to get into a better headspace.
I had been so down for so long that I had forgotten what it was like to genuinely feel upbeat and positive. I tried, but I could constantly feel the negativity creeping into my mind. So, I decided to try something familiar yet with a new twist.
I wrote a list. I wrote a list of ten things that I really want in my life. After I was finished writing that list, I wrote another list of everything that I need to do in order to feel like I’m taking care of myself.
Now, you may be thinking, “But Hannah, how does writing these lists help?” Let me explain.
The first list is kind of like a life wish list. It contains things like “have a harmonious relationship,” and “be able to easily manage stress.” I look at these ten things that I want in life, and for some reason seeing them on paper make them seem more doable.
The second list is helpful to look at when I am having a horrible day because it reminds me to take care of myself. I’ll share more about this one later on this month to give you a better idea. But to get the gist of it, I have things like “start and end the day with a big glass of water,” and “be kind” on my list.
So far this has really helped me to stay in a more positive state of mind. Having a positive mindset has given me more energy to do things that are getting me closer to the things on that first list. I’m excited to see how many of my goals can be accomplished.
